Vivienne Netherwood is a felt artist living and working in Thingwall, Wirral. Originally from Liverpool, she trained initially as a biomedical scientist before moving to software development and hospital systems integration.
Despite a lifelong interest in photography and art, Vivienne only recently launched her artistic career and is largely self-taught. Last year she was awarded a Certificate in Feltmaking by the International Feltmakers Association which was the culmination of several years self-directed study.
Vivienne is a member of the Re-view textile group and Frodsham Friday Felters group and has taught a variety of felt making workshops.
By exploring a variety of different themes she has built a diverse portfolio of felt art and accessories. One theme of particular interest is the representation of text in felt and the possibilities in building abstract compositions from text. The Ghost Signs series explores how type links us back to the past, especially when weathered and partially obscured as if worn out by time.
Vivienne’s art has been exhibited in various local venues and was published in Average Art magazine in December 2016.
