Art in all its forms has always fascinated me and I value drawing as a means of recording, planning and creating. Currently my preferred artistic media is textiles, and this chimes well with my “make do and mend” philosophy. I use fabric and paper embellished with machine and hand stitching to make wall pieces and home furnishing.
Recent work has employed used envelopes which I texture and paint to achieve a range of colours and tones. These papers are torn or cut and fixed with stitch to a pre-drawn design. Subject matter usually relates to the local environment with coast and countryside featuring heavily, but may develop from an overheard phrase.
My pieces tend to be quirky, loosely representational, celebratory, accessible and original. Their surface simplicity belies the complexity of ideas behind them and the technical knowledge that informs them.
